New Years Resolutions

SO, 2007 is about to draw to a close, and people all over the world are making new years resolutions…im not a fan of them myself, because any promise we dont keep to ourselves errodes the trust we have in ourselves, just like it would of another person. BUT in the spirit of the season, I have given it some thought, and I suppose that starting afresh is not totally a bad thing, so long as it is kept achievable and realistic…SO here’s my commitments for 2008!

1. Yup, im bringing out old faithful as number one – im losing weight…again…:P BUT I did have success last year, so this is really a continuation of a process already in progress. 20kgs is a lot, but i wanna see more…more….MORRREEE!

2. KISS – meaning KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID! LOL I want to have a simple life, filled with simple pleasures. This is going to mean less time on a computer and more time with friends (whoohoo!) and NOONE can say thats a bad thing!

3. Regular bible study – THIS more so than the weight is a biggie for me, and one that I find extremely hard to do….please pray for me!

4. Be a better friend – I’ve already started working on this, and it kinda ties in with number 2….basically what i mean is I want to listen more, talk less, be there for more people nad less selfish with my spare time, and really BE in the moment with people…I think its important.

5. Save for NZ – so long as we stick to the budget, and not stray too far from it we’re gonna be just fine on this one….land of the long white cloud here we come!!!!!!

Well…thats it from me. Feel free to comment with your own resolutions for the new year! Peace out and see u in 2008!!!!!!!

Genesis 11

Hi guys,

I havent done a full analysis of Genesis 10 because it is all geneology, and at this stage of my learning I really dont have much to say on it. If I were more theologically versed I might be able to talk about it, but at this stage it really doesnt mean much. Please read it if you want to, and we continue on with Genesis 11. Again, I encourage ANYONE reading this to please read the verse first….make sure what I am saying is true and make your own mind up. These are just my ramblings!

When we are unified, when we understand eachother, we can do great things. These people were of one accord, and so they intended to do a great work

There was pride involved with this – these people had taken their eyes off God. They instead wanted to make a name for themselves, to be remembered for what THEY have done and not what God had done. We can do the same thing in our own lives. We can seek to be remembered and recognised for our own achievements, so that when we’re gone we will be remembered for something – but we shouldnt be prideful – God remembers all things, and this world is so temporal – we need to be seeking to do things that LAST, not building towers here on earth, but instead doing work that is eternal in the kingdom.

God did exactly as they feared – he confused their language and scattered them. God doesn’t like pridefulness – God wants us to rely on Him. So he confused their language, so that they would have to remain reliant on God rather than on their own strength. Its important that we too rely totally on God, and not try to do things on our own strength. God can do all things, but we cannot. WE are so limited in our abilities, but God is eternal. WE can be confused, and sometimes God allows this, in order for us to more fully rely on God and God’s clarity. On;y God has the big picture, and we have to remember that. We dont have the full picture of What God is doing, so we too are confused, but God always has a plan.

if our plans go awry sometimes its because those plans had bad motives…..we should examine why we’re doing what we’re doing and see if we are doing it out of pride. God will not let things we do in our own strength stand, because God loves us and wants us to rely on HIS strength. if we do things out of our own strength, sooner or later they will fall, either in this life or be burnt up at the judgement seat of Christ. We have to be SO CAREFUL to do things that are of eternal value. Its so vital that we keep our motives in check, and be constantly reminded of WHY we do what we do. Any good plan can go bad if we dont do it for the right reasons. Remember that God’s plans may not be clear at the time, but that they’re ALWAYS the absolute best, and better than we can ever do on our own. God will pull us away from things that are not of Him, if we walk with Him always, and we have to be ready to let those things go quickly and with little distress – because what God has for us is so much better.

Application Prayer: Father God, even though this scripture is confusing to me I thank you that you have the answers. I thankyou that I rely on YOUR strength and not my own. Father, help me to seek out the answers from you. Help me to find the right people who will answer truthfully and with great wisdom that only comes from you. Father, I know that I do things on my own strength, and I know that I should only be relying on you. Lord, help me to not be prideful in the things I do. Help me to remember that all I do is on YOUR strength and not my own. Help me to know what is of you and what is not. Help me to identify pridefulness in my life and rip it out! Help me to acknowledge everyday that YOU are the only strength I need. Lord you are enough for me – I do not need to do ANYTHING to win your approval, I just need to walk in your ways, and rely on you for everything. You are my portion and my strength, and I thank you for being that for me. Help me to put aside my pride, my thoughts that put me first instead of you. Help me to put aside my filthy rags, and instead seek a real work that can only be found in you. Help me to understand what you want me to do, and then to do it and acknowlege always that it is YOUR provision that makes it happen. Break me down Lord, Break me down and then build me up with you and you alone. I want YOUR heart, less of me, and more of you Lord Jesus! I ask these things in Jesus name!!!!! AMEN

Genesis 9

Man we are cruisin! Today we look at the after effects of the flood, and also an incident with Noah. Fascinating stuff, and very applicable in principle to our lives today. Make sure you read the whole thing, the lessons the HS taught me today are very worthy today, specially on the value of human life and the fact that we need to respect ourselves! Read on!

we have to be careful in what we do to our planet. We have dominion over the earth, and all the living things in it. We have to honor God, by looking after it, by making it multply and prosper rather than stripping it of its worth.
This speaks toa number of different areas. Euthanasia, particuarly assissted, abortion, murder, all these things God is against. We are all made in God’s image, and we are all His children. Only God has the right to give or take a life, not us. We have to start valuing lives, not just in respect to murder but in general – drug abuse, pornography, alcoholism, eating disorders, rape, sexual promiscuity, abuse, all these things devalue human life, and they’re not of God. People dont have to be murdered in order to be taking their life or someone elses life – it happens every time we disrespect our lives nad the lives of others. We were not made to get temporary pleasure out of this life, we were made to worship our God, and to strive for eternity. Seeing past this life makes us realise our awesome worth in God, and our awesome responsibility to GET IT RIGHT NOW rather than wait til eternity and find out that we didnt follow God’s will for our lives. We must not only value THIS life that God gave us, but the eternal one waiting for us with Jesus.
God loves multiplication, and not just with children, but with work for His kingdom. God wants us to take what we have been given both in the physical and in the spiritual and multiply it over and over – to win souls for Him, as well as to give generously out of our prosper!
God assures us of his provision and protection. When Noah and his sons came out of the ark, they would have been terrified the next time it rained if it wasn’t for the rainbow! The rainbow is a symbol of God’s covenant, given so that we could ALL know God’s promise. God knows that we need someting physical, something tangible, which is why he sent the rainbow, his word, and His only son Jesus.
God promises to stick with us, and so He sent His only son Jesus to die for us. The rainbow is the symbol of the promise not just to never again destroy us, but that God loves us, and wants to have a covenant with each and every one of us.

Ham not only dishonored his father, he also tried to coerce the others to sin also. This brings great punishment, as the NT shows us. We have to be so careful to not gossip, not to cause anyone else to enter INTO gossip and to never take pleasure in other’s embarassment or pain. We will be dealt with even more harshly if we lead another to sin. It was fortunate that Shem and Japheth did not fall for it, but so often we can! We have to be strong, stick to our principles, and to God’s word because only by doing so can we hope to stay away from temptation to do evil. We have to take God’s word FIRST, not man’s.
Even though our parents do wrong, they’re still our parents. We have a certain responsibility to not shame them, to honor them always. This doesn’t mean we have to subject ourselves to abuse, or to the wrongs of our parents, but it does mean that we do not seek them harm. Ham did, and was cursed not just for himsefl but his descendants also. We have to respect our parents always, and show that to our children, so that the consequences do not continue down the line. We have to make the commitment to stop whatever bad lineage we have, and to make the change to show a better example to our children.
God knows all our secrets, and with a relationship with God we can sometimes have those secrets revealed to us. Noah was asleep at the time, but Noah knew what had happened, and acted accordingly. If we trust God, God can reveal that which is hidden, because God’s desire is for His will to be done over all the earth, and no amount of secrecy can even REMOTELY hinder that!

Application prayer: Father God, thankyou that you gave us the whole earth and everything in it for our benefit. Lord thankyou that you gave us every living thing for food, so that we can grow strong in you. Father, help me today to be a better steward of your planet. Help me to respect all creation that you have given us, so that we can show honor to you our heavenly Father. Lord, thankyou for your promise to never again give up on us. Father God, thankyou that you sent the rainbow in the sky, as a symbol of your promise. You know that we are weak, and we need tangible things in order to remind us of your promises to us, so thankyou that you sent the rainbow, and your Word, and most of all your Son who walked the earth with us. Father God, we know that you mourn for every instance of disvalue for human life. I pray Lord Jesus, for those who are lost, for those who are addicted, or alone, or feel like there’s no value to their lives, I pray right now that you will lift them up Lord Jesus. Send people into their lives that will minister to them in a real way and show them that their life is valuable and has meaning. Lord, I pray that you will bring to us a better understanding of the value of life, and for me personally Lord that you will change my heart. Change the way I view myself, and help me to see my value and my worth in you. Father God, heal a broken spirit who is hurting, who feels she isnt good enough, heal her broken heart and make it so that she understands that she is valuable, worthy, and loved, nomatter what she looks like. Father God, help us all to not buy into satan’s lies, that we are less than worthy, because you love us, you sent your son to die for us, and you count us all as valuable. Lord, despite the mistakes of my parents, help me to honor them. Show me right from wrong in every situation, and help me to be like Shem and Japheth, not giving into the temptation of evil, and instead securing for me andmy children lifetimes of blessing rather than pain. Help me to break the chains of the past, stop the cycle of abuse, nad create for me nad my descendants a bright future. I know I cannot do it on my own strength Father, but I can do it with you! Lord, help me to heal my own heart before I have children, so that when I do, I will treat them in a Godly loving manner, and by doing so show honor and respect for the lives you have given me. Help me to never speak ill of my father again, and instead treat him wtih love and honor, despite what he has done to me. Help me Lord God tobe the kind of daughter that a father is proud of, because YOU are my Father, and I love you so much and seek nothing more than to honor you! Help me walk away from the past with love and peace and joy in my heart. You know all things, you know all that has happened, and you know all that will happen – still my heart, and give it peace. In Jesus name, I pray all these things. AMEN!

Genesis 8

This reading has left me with more questions than answers Im afraid…..why did Noah wait so long to get out of the ark? Was he scared, or was he waiting on the Lord? Why is it that only after Noah’s sacrifice did God vow to never again destroy the human race? Didn’t God love us unconditionally from the start? I have made note of these to ask my mentor, ubt in the meantime if anyone has anything to respond to that,

please do!

I would love to hear others opinions on these matters! Enjoy!

God always brings about salvation at the right time…God always provides for us exactly what we need when we need it and we have to be aware that sometimes God’s schedule is not our schedule. We have to be patient at times nad wait on God’s timing, because it is always perfect. Our finite minds cannot grasp heavenly concepts so we have to rely on God to support us in times of need and we have to trust that there is meaning to suffering

Getting over the “floods” in our lives takes time. There are times when we have to completely rely on God in order to save us, and we have to be patient! God will come through for us, if we allow Him the time to do the work He needs to do in us.

Our God is an AWESOME God, and deserves our Godly fear.

The dove, used later as a symbol for the HS, would not rest until it found somewhere to land. I think about the verse about the HS hovering above the waters, finding nowhere to land. And I also think of what I read somewhere about the HS hovering still above the earth, waiting for a willing heart to speak to! I pray I am that heart, that when the dove comes to find a safe place to land that I am it, and that the HS can work wonders through me.

Noah waited a long time – and I really don’t know why. There are two possibilities for this. One, he was waiting for prompting from God to leave the ark, which personally I think is a good move. After all, listening to God is what got Noah and his family saved in the first place!!!

The second option is that Noah was afraid…Noah was in a stinkie awful ark, but at least he knew it was safe. I’ve heard this version preached a few times, about how we have to get out of the ark, but I like the idea of him waiting for God’s prompting before moving. I will have to investigate this further.

Noah did the right thing and offered the best of the best to God in thanks for what God had done. When God works miracles in our lives, we have to remember to thank Him FIRST, and to rejoice later. God works all good things into our hearts and lives, and we should be of the state of mind that thanking God is the instant reaction to such blessings.

God accepts our thanks with the same pleasure. God feels just like we feel (see earlier bible study) and so we please Him when we remember Him and what He has done for us. The Lord is good, and so deserves our praise, our thanks, and our very best every single day. Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrifice, but we can do our bit to show God that we love him, the bible says that to show God we love him we can keep His law, and to talk to Him all the time. developing this relationship shows God that we care, and allows God to tell us things we would have missed otherwise!

Father God, Thankyou for your faithfulness to us. Thankyou that you stuck by the human race, and that you made a covenant with Noah. Lord, help me to be patient when I am waiting on you. Help me to wait for YOUR voice, and to be faithful to your commands. When the way is dark, when the road is long, when the waters are all around, and I feel like giving up, Lord help me to hang on one more day, one more week, untill YOU tell me to move. Father, at times we are in places of turmoil, places of trial that are not very nice, but I know that you work great things in us in times of adversity. I pray Lord God that you will strengthen me during those times, that you will give me resolve and maturity to identify those lessons as they come. Father God, help me to be faithful to you. Help me to never stray from your word, and to never do anything on my own strength but instead to always rely on you for everything I need. Lord I Love you, and i want to show you how much by keeping your commandments. Help me to be patient, to be strong, and to seek only your voice today, tomorrow and always. Help me to do things that show my love for you. Help me to remember first and foremost to thank YOU when I am blessed, because we know all good things come from you. But in a similar fashion, Lord, help me to praise you when I am in trouble, because those things too are worked for your good. Help me to remember to praise you in ALL my circumstances, and to rely faithfully on you to get me out of whatever crazy situation I have gotten myself in. I love you Lord, I worship you, and I praise your Holy Name in Jesus. You are a great God, and I want to let the whole world know how you bring me through the bad times. Lord keep me strong, in Jesus name. AMEN!

Genesis Seven

Today we continue the flood story - with everything coming to pass just like God told Noah. It is important to remember that

God always keeps his word….everything that God promises is true! Enjoy!

Like noah’s family, we are also saved, but not through anything we have done. We are saved from spiritual death through Jesus Christ, through what HE did. Noah’s family may not have been righteous but he was, and so they were all saved because of his obedience. Jesus Christ went to the cross to die for us, and was obedient to His calling, and so we are all saved. We dont deserve it, we didnt earn it, but we recieve it from God because God loves us, and because Jesus loves us. How grateful Noah’s family must hav ebeen, that Noah was righteous and therefore saved them all. So are we grateful

that Jesus was obedient, and saved us from eternal death!

God provided appropriate food for Noah, and God provides appropriate things for us even today.
When we are faithful to God, God tells us His plans. God reveals his desire and will for us as we walk along this life with Him. God will tell us exactly what we need to hear and when we need to hear it. God loves us, nad wants to communicate with us, God wants us to talk to Him, to entrust Him with our lives and our secrets nad our feelings, and God will never forsake us in that, God will always listen, and will reciprocate in kind!
We have to be obedient to God in order for God to trust us. The bible says, if we are faithful in small things, God will allow us to be entrusted with bigger things. We have to be obedient to God and to be willing to follow God’s word to us nomatter where it leads us, and if we are, we will be blessed, we will be saved, and we will be provided for when those not in God’s kingdom perish. Noah was a very close companion to God, because Noah was first faithful, then tested, then rewarded.
God gives us the strength to do marvellous things, nomatter how frail, old, feeble or incapable we think we are. God will always provide a way, and it is not our place to doubt. We have to have faith in God that if God brings us to it, He will bring us through it!

God’s word is also true – God cannot tell a lie. So when we read about Jesus, about our worth as Christians, and about the promises that God has given us, we have to remember that that is also true. God cannot lie
When we walk away from God we also die. Only in God is there life. When the people died in the flood it was because they were away from God – they didn’t have a relationship with God. God destroyed them all and we have to remain walking with God sot aht we do not die a spiritual death and be eternally lost – God is the only way to everlasting life through Jesus Christ :D

Application prayer – Father God, thankyou that you saved Noah and his family from the flood. Thankyou that you did not give up on the human race. I pray today Lord that when troubles come, when the flood waters rise, that I will be the one you entrust with your plans. Father God, help me to be the faithful one who is ready to carry out your plans. Give me a big faith, that knows you can do ANYTHING, nomatter what my limitations are. Father God, help me to trust in your plans, nomatter what other people say. Help me to follow only you, to keep my eyes on you Lord, and to never worry about the future, because the future is firmly in your grasp. Lord, wen the world seems corrupt, and when darkness falls, let me always walk in your ways, and follow your laws. Help me not to fall into worldly ways, help me to never sell out. Noah never sold out, and as a result he was saved, and was able to start a new world for you Lord. Help me to never sell out for second best, because the only way to eternal life is you. Help me to remember that you are the only thing that matters, and allow me to be the one you send. I ask all these things, in Jesus name, AMEN!

Genesis Six

It’s been raining here for the last two and a half days, so I find it quite fitting that today we examine the story of Noah, well the beginnings anyways! Enjoy!

Its not just the prospering that is important, btu HOW we prosper. In this story, humanity did multiply, but became corrupt, because int hat multiplication mankind turned away from God. We are to be fruitful, and to multiply, but we must always rely on the Lord to help us, and pray constantly for us and our children and our children’s children, that they may ALL walk in the Lord. It is not enough that we do so, but we must do everything we can to instill values into our children that teach them to walk with God also.

God limits our life, so we must make the best of the time we have! We never know when the end will come for us, so we have to be careful to live each day sold out for God!

God knows our intentions, and so we have to keep our heart in check at all times. God sees all evil being done, as well as all good, and God will judge us accordingly. There is no excuse for us as believers…we have the truth, nad we have to learn what to do with that truth. We have to multiply our minas, and we have to make sure that those around us know the truth also. God will see if we have evil intentions, and while there may be no rammifications here on earth, eternally the punishments will be great if we dont clean up our hearts nad onlyhave good intentions in our actions

God knows our emotions…He has them too. When we are overwhelmed, when we’re sad, when we’re grieving, we have to remember that God knows what that feels like, and only He can take it away. Jesus took all our sorrow on the cross, and we can ask Him to comfort us in our hour of need. God grieved, and so must we be allowed to grieve. Grieving does not mean we’re weak, it is necessary, and it enables God to work more strength into our lives when we come OUT of adversity. Never be afraid to show God your feelings, or to tell God all about what is troubling you..God knows, and God cares.

Jesus was also one man who saved humanity. There are a lot of paralells between this story and the gospel….Satan thought he had won, he had ruled over every human being alive. But there was one man that Satan did not rule over – Noah. Noah didn’t just build an ark, he cultivated a relationship with God and therefore saved the human race from being wiped out. Jesus Christ was the ultimate salvation, and because Jesus chose to die on a cross for us, we were saved from ETERNAL death, not just earthly death. Satan thought He had won then too, only to discover that God triumphs always over death. WE could never save ourselves, Jesus did it for us, and so we rely on Jesus now and always to uphold us, and on His blood to wash us clean.

If we walk with God, if we cultivate that relationship with God, if we rely on God and be intimate with God, we too can do incredible things. The bible talks about men who walked with God, and who did well beyond their means. So too can we, if we rely on God for our strength and talk to God all the time. Its a lifestyle – constantly going to God for every move we make, but its worth it. Only God can manage our lives. It makes sense to allow the creator to guide us…..who better!

God knows when we are wronged…God sees it, and God is saddened. We can take comfort in knowing that God knows all, and that even though evil runs rampant over the earth right now, that God will have His vengence, and that all things will come to light in time. We are never alone, we are never forsaken, and God will never leave us. God can comfort our hearts when noone else can.

God saves humanity from an earthly death through a man…..and then saves humanity from eternal death through His son.

We can be sure that when God tells us to do something, He goes before us and makes the way straight, and that every single detail is thought of and taken care of. When we listen to God’s voice, and do as He asks, we will be amazed at how every detail is maintained

Noah’s faithfulness reaps eternal rewards that echo throughout all eternity….they’re never ending. Noah made a covenant with God not just for him, but for everyone after him. Our faithfulness too can reap eternal rewards, and though it may not seem to profit much now, we can never fully understand the eternal consequences of our actions.

Convenants are very important in the OT, they’re Gods promises to us. They still apply today, because they are unbreakable. God promises us many things, but these things are conditional. God’s promises should never be taken lightly….they’re very serious, and they’re very real. When we do as the bible tells us to do, we are rewarded…there is nothing ambiguous about it at all. But we have to do as God asks us to. That requires obedience and faithfulness, but reaps great rewards in return!

God provided everything for Noah after the flood as well as during, including all the animal life. God provides for us before, during and after stormy seasons in our lives, with great detail and with exact precision

God is able to provide for anything, nomatter how big the task may be. I cannot fathom how much food Noah and all those animals must have needed, and yet God provided for them all daily. I am amazed at the power of God, it is beyond all logical understanding, but that same power is available to us today, tomorrow, and forever. We should never be afraid…..if God can do that, God can do anything, and God will always provide for us even if the challenge seems too much!

The kind of mocking Noah must have endured is beyond me…but I have seen those who follow Christ mocked also, and I take comfort in knowing that the end result is always worth it. The world can laugh, because it is corrupted…how can the world possibly understand a God who is beyond all human understanding? Only the HS can reveal God and His ways to us, and if we dont have the HS then of course we’re not going to get it. I cannot expect those I meet who aren’t followers of Jesus Christ to understand why I do the things I do any more than I can ask an Ant to understand the universe….its just not possible. When we have different mindsets we have to remember compassion…Noah must have endured terrible mocking and persecution from those around him, because they were under Satan’s rule….but Noah was faithful, and God was faithful in return. We have to keep our eyes on the prize, and have mercy for those who laugh at us…..they dont understand, ebcause they dont have the revelation that we do. We just have to love them, nad be faithful to God.

Application Prayer: Father God, thankyou that you saved the human race from earthly death through Noah…but even more that you saved us from eternal death through Jesus! Thankyou that you provide for our every need, nomatter how detailed! Thankyou that you see injustice in the world, and that you mourn for it as we do….you are a loving God, and you know our pain, because you have emotions just like we do. Thankyou that you sent your only Son to show us that you love us so much, and so that we could come to you and be clean. Father God, I pray today, that you call to mind the storms in my life, and allow me to thank you for always providing for me, before, during and after. Help me to have more faith that in my times of trial, you are bigger than anything If ace, and that you can provide for me nomatter how big the task at hand is. I ask that you give me strength to endure any persecution that comes my way – that you allow me to do your will always and give me the strength to forsake all others. I want to be a willing servant to you Lord, help me to be the one who says “Yes Lord” when you call. Help me to be sensitive to your spirit, so that I may build whatever ark you have in store for me in my life! Let me be the one you call on Lord, today, tomorrow and always. I am willing, I am able, send me! Thankyou Jesus for your guidance, and help me to know the next step you want me to take…I seek only to follow your will. In Jesus name. AMEN!

Genesis Five

Today I didnt do a full analysis of this passage, as it is primarily geneologies, and there are only a few points I want to make about it. I find it interesting that the bible once again mentions that God made man, and that He made us in the likeness of Himself, and that we were created male and female and were blessed. Then it goes through from Adam right down to Noah and his children. I have asked myself why this section is there – what the writer felt was the purpose of this geneology at this particular time. Im still undecided! I think that its important to acknowledge what happened since ADam and Eve and the whole Cain andAble story…also its to establish that it was that very same lineage that bore Noah and that same lineage that was never destroyed, not even by the flood. In that way, we can say that we are all descendants of Adam and Eve.

Also interesting to note is the disintegration of

the human life span. Adam lives 800 years, but when you get down to Lamech his years are 777 (God’s number

…also interesting!) Noah has his sons, and

leaves it there. I plan on asking Amanda about

this passage…about what more could be derived

from it.  Will keep you posted!

Father God, thankyou for your word to us.

Thankyou that you made us, that you love us,

and that even now you continue as you did

back in the days of noah to provide, and oversee

and allow us to prosper and multiply.  Father

God, help us to continue to walk in your ways,

to never forsake you, and to remain strong as

the people in your word did. They did not have

the assurance of Jesus Christ and yet they continued to be faitful to the end. Help us to do the same, to always walk in your

ways like Enoch did.  We seek to do your will Lord, help us to rid ourselves of any sin so that we may always hear your voice. We praise you, and we thankyou Lord God. You alone are worthy of our worship, and we seek to worship nothing else. We ask this in Jesus name, AMEN.

Genesis Four

Ok peoples, with the exception of a little bit of geneology *yawn* good for historians not for me….this is actually where things get really interesting! Get ready for Cain and Abel! Genesis 4

Even though Cain is the first born, he gets jealous of Abel….we have to be careful not to be jealous if someone we consider less than us is blessed by God and we are not. It’s not a competition! God blesses everyone in different ways and in different timings!
Abel is not firstborn, and yet God favours him. Why is unclear. Perhaps God was testing Cain, knowing that Cain was already jealous of hisbrother. Perhaps Abel had a better heart state during his sacrifice to God, and therefore his blessing was more acceptable because where his heart was at with God. There are two lessons to be learnt here in that case. First that we have to be careful to root out any bitterness or jealousy we have in our heart, because you never know when God might draw that to the surface and this might cause us to sin. Secondly, when we do things for God we have to do it right a right heart. We have to make sure our motivations are pure, and that we are not being selfish. If our motivations are truly pure, we will not mind if someone else is blessed rather than us. We will rejoice for them!
God gives us all different roles to play, and one is never above another – we are all working towards the kingdom doing our own unique jobs. God doesn’t play favourites, and we have to work dilligently in the roles God has given us without wanting glory for ourselves.
Cain did the right action – He brought an offering before the Lord. But the action may not have been accompanied with a right heart state. Cain was jealous of Abel, and perhaps too proud within himself. Perhaps he felt superior to Abel, and so when God favoured Abel instead of Cain, CAin couldnt take that. Cain was offended, and angry

God wants us to confess our feelings to Him. He wants us to be totally open and honest with Him. God knows how we feel, He knows what we do, but God wants us to tell him anyways because it clears our conscience and our hearts, and gets rid of any ill intent we have
Anger can do pretty awful things if we let it take hold. Cain had just spoken with his brother, but the anger had not gone away – it had taken root in his spirit. When anger takes hold, satan can use it for his own evil ends, and this is what happened to Cain. Cain allowed the feelings to take over, and instead of exhibiting self control he lost it, and in doing so did a terrible thing. We have to be SO careful of our feelings, to keep them in check, and to make sure that we are not acting out of feelings…because when we act out of pure emotion and that emotion is anger, terrible things can happen!

God is aware of the injustices in this world. We feel like God doesn’t see all the wrong things that happen but God knows. God says that Abel’s blood cries out from the ground, and so does every single innocent person’s blood that has fallen here on this earth. When we are wronged for God’s sake, when we are hurt and persecuted and alone, we can take comfort in knowing that God is always there. We can remember that God knows all the injustices, and God will have his vengence. We dont have to feel alone, because we are never truly alone when we have the Lord on our side.
When we go against God, we are also cast out in a way. We have a wedge driven betwee God and us, and we are roaming the earth without God’s love. In Jesus, we have the ability to come before God and ask God to take away the sins that keep us from Him, and we can have a right relationship with God without constant condemnation for our sins.
Cain knows that being a vagabond on earth is not a nice punishment. It doesn’t just mean going out from his family and his home, it means being apart from God. It means not being able to rely on God for protection. I believe Cain is most afraid that because God will not be with him, that he will be killed and that God wont be there to proect him as God once was
God always takes pity on us. Nomatter what we do in this life, God loves us, and when we plead to him he will hear us. God doesn’t want the worst for us, he wants the best, but because there was no Jesus in those days there had to be a punishment and Cain had to bear that punishment in order for God to be a just God. The Lord provides for us, even in the midst of the consequences of our own actions – God is merciful and loving, and we have to rememeber that God doesnt WANT us to suffer, and that God is always there for us, even when we are suffering.

We can change our own destinies in a way when we walk away from God’s calling on our lives. Cain had to walk way because he went against God’s wishes and killed his brother – and so we too have to be so careful to keep ourselves in check, so that we don’t miss out on God’s call for us. When we walk in the Lord, doing right by God and confessing quickly our sins and asking for forgiveness, God directs our steps, and we are assured victory in Him. It’s not what we can do for him, but what he’s arleady done for us – we can be assured that we will not be alone, and that our path will be made straight. We will live out God’s plan, IF we stay in God’s will. When we walk away fromGod’s will, we also walk away from the life God had planned for us, and we miss our God given purpose.

God provided another son for Adam and Eve, having lost one and the other murdered. God always provides for our needs, and always gives us exactly what we want when we want it.
Seth must have given Adam and Eve great joy, as does all God’s blessings give us. We have to remember when we suffer loss, that God is always there to provide another way, to comfort in a different avenue than we thought possible. Im sure Adam and Eve never planned on having a third son but in doing so God blessed them, allowed their liniage to continue in Seth and Seth’s son, and also filled the hole that Cain and Abel must have left in their hearts.

Application prayer – Father God, I thankyou that you give each one of us roles to do in this life. I thainkyou that you have given me jobs to do that noone else on earth can do. I praise your name for the work you have set out for me to do, and I rely totally on you for your guidance and strength to do what you have asked me to. Lord, I ask in Jesus name that you keep my heart free from offense, envy, bitterness and anger. Lord, when others are being blessed, and I am not, help me to understand that you do all things in your timing, not mine! Help me to be a good person, help me to keep my heart clean from any anger, and do not let the root of bitterness take hold in my spirit. Lord, help me to rejoice when others prosper, and to never entertain jealous thoughts, because you have already blessed me over and above anything I could have imagined. Call to my mind often the times you have put me first above others, so that when I am the bottom of the barrell I remember, and am glad. Lord I thank you that in the midst of the consequences of my sinfulness you are still merciful – you sent your only son to die on a cross for me so that I might live with you, and I thank you for that. I thank you that you show mercy and that when we are lacking, when we experience loss and hurt, you provide for us emotionally, spiritually, and physically, so that we don’t have to suffer. Lord I pray that when I am hurting, that you show me the people in my life that you have sent to replace my lost loved ones…and that you call to mind your provision for me. Help me to live for you, and to keep my heart state always pure and ready for whatever comes, and keep me from relying on my emotions. Help me to keep them in check, because this is something I really struggle with, and help me to be peaceful and surrendered to your will for my life. When troubles come, let me be a peaceful centre, rather than a whirlwind, and help me to not panick, because you have it all in hand. Lead me not into temptation, and help me to never act out of anger but out of love and peace and tranquility that only comes from you. Help me to be selfless, and never self seeking – I ask all these things, nad believing in faith that they will be done, in Jesus name, AMEN!
