Today I didnt do a full analysis of this passage, as it is primarily geneologies, and there are only a few points I want to make about it. I find it interesting that the bible once again mentions that God made man, and that He made us in the likeness of Himself, and that we were created male and female and were blessed. Then it goes through from Adam right down to Noah and his children. I have asked myself why this section is there – what the writer felt was the purpose of this geneology at this particular time. Im still undecided! I think that its important to acknowledge what happened since ADam and Eve and the whole Cain andAble story…also its to establish that it was that very same lineage that bore Noah and that same lineage that was never destroyed, not even by the flood. In that way, we can say that we are all descendants of Adam and Eve.
Also interesting to note is the disintegration of
the human life span. Adam lives 800 years, but when you get down to Lamech his years are 777 (God’s number
…also interesting!) Noah has his sons, and
leaves it there. I plan on asking Amanda about
this passage…about what more could be derived
from it. Will keep you posted!
Father God, thankyou for your word to us.
Thankyou that you made us, that you love us,
and that even now you continue as you did
back in the days of noah to provide, and oversee
and allow us to prosper and multiply. Father
God, help us to continue to walk in your ways,
to never forsake you, and to remain strong as
the people in your word did. They did not have
the assurance of Jesus Christ and yet they continued to be faitful to the end. Help us to do the same, to always walk in your
ways like Enoch did. We seek to do your will Lord, help us to rid ourselves of any sin so that we may always hear your voice. We praise you, and we thankyou Lord God. You alone are worthy of our worship, and we seek to worship nothing else. We ask this in Jesus name, AMEN.
